Summer 2025 Updates
We hope you're having a wonderful summer! We've been busy connecting with new friends who are facing a brain tumor diagnosis, putting together fundraising plans for 2026, and squeezing in some fun summer trips along the way.
On behalf of the Emily's Light Foundation Board, we wanted to share a few updates with you: A fundraiser happening nationwide this week, the friends we've supported recently, and our plans for our second-annual Illuminate Gala. Keep scrolling!
An Update on Three of Our Friends
Carson
Carson was diagnosed with DMG (the same kind of brain tumor Emily had) in 2024. When his mom reached out to us, we knew we wanted to help, and because of your donations, we were able to provide him with an all-terrain wheelchair so that he can continue going on adventures!
Here's what his mom, Nicole, wrote to us after the wheelchair arrived:
“I wanted to say, 'thank you' again. We got Carson’s wheelchair, and it is so wonderful! We already have one camping trip booked and are working on booking another. We took him up hiking in the mountains a week ago and the chair was amazing! We could push him through the dirt and trails. We can’t thank you enough for your kindness and generosity!!!! You have helped lighten the heavy burden that we feel and made Carson so happy! Thank you!!!!! Carson has no facial expression [due to the tumor], so his 'thumbs up' is him smiling! "
Seana
Seana was diagnosed with a diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) brain tumor in September of 2023. At the time, she was completing her Physician’s Assistant degree and was a long-time competitive Irish Dancer. Seana has endured multiple surgeries, three rounds of radiation and numerous clinical trial procedures. One request she had was to have a nice quality camera to vlog her life, her thoughts and feelings, and her adventures. Through your donations, Emily’s Light was able to provide funds for Seana to purchase the camera which you see her using here! Seana just completed her 3rd and final cycle of radiation treatments, which thankfully has brought much of her mobility back. Seana is nicknamed “Exceptional Seana” for her steadfast determination to keep moving forward despite the physical and emotional challenges she faces every day.
Mike
Mike has been diagnosed with a grade 4 DMG. He is currently undergoing a clinical trial at Mayo Clinic and has been receiving photon radiation. His mom, Sonora, says that in spite of his diagnosis, he's remained positive and upbeat. When his mom reached out to us, we knew we wanted to bless their family with a fun experience, and thanks to your generosity, we sent them a check to cover their airfare for a trip to Key West!
Here's what Sonora wrote to us:
“We got the check and the beautiful note. Deb, I cannot thank you enough. You really do make my world a little brighter during this darkness."
